At MAAT, our Training and Development programs equip BIPOC youth with the tools, confidence, and clarity to thrive in careers that reflect their passions and potential. We provide intentional, culturally responsive support that prepares youth to step into professional spaces with purpose and vision.
In a world where systemic barriers persist, we tailor each program to strengthen communication, leadership, problem-solving, and technical skills. By centring their lived experiences and cultural strengths, we empower youth to grow not just professionally—but holistically and with long-term impact.
Back to Basics is a community based food skills development and capacity building program for youth ages 13-29. Back to Basics offers youth education and hands-on food experience focusing on general nutrition, food safety, food preparation, food se-lection and cooking skills, and agriculture fieldtrip experience to a variety of local farms and farmers’ markets. The program gives participants a chance to gain confidence in their abilities to produce tasty and healthy meals.
Lyric Lab is a mobile recording studio where youth can express themselves musically and creatively with guidance in a safe, supportive environment. Participants gain hands-on experience in the full music production process—learning songwriting, beat creation, sound mixing, and mastering—as they explore their talents and develop new skills.
Youth draw from both modern and ancestral influences, using lyricism as a tool to tell their stories, express their truth, and connect with their community. Whether behind the mic or behind the boards, they gain technical skills, confidence, and cultural pride—while creating original works that can be performed, shared, and celebrated.
